On behalf of all those working to save the neglected Grade II listed Frank James Memorial Hospital at East-Cowes IOW, I am once again pleased to acknowledge the very valuable help given by Richard Manser of SafeSite, who contacted us after hearing of our concerns following a series of vandalism and theft incidents there. Without expectation of payment, Richard immediately secured the most vulnerable entry points to the building and perimeter, ending that spate of damaging illegal entries, and he has since continued to provide further assistance and advice to the Friends of Frank James volunteers.
As a result of that help, in addition to restoring the professional level of building security which had been noticeably lacking for several years, the Friends were finally able to persuade the absentee owners to become more responsible after a long period of inaction, and were also then offered further help from other bodies and the local authority which produced long overdue essential repair work.
More recently, when the adjacent former Health Centre was finally sold after years of disuse (and additional theft & vandalism), the new absentee owner immediately contracted Safesite to improve and maintain security there, since when both sites have been untroubled by harmful illegal entry.
The Friends of Frank James will always be hugely grateful for the help given by Safesite, which has undoubtedly made a vital contribution to securing the future of a much-loved, historically and architecturally important asset.
